How To Play FishVille






FishVille is a flash game created by Zynga and can be played only on Facebook. It was launched in November 2009. In this game, you can own aquariums and fill them with your favorite fishes. Each fish has their different growth and feeding times. Once the fishes grew, you can sell them to gain experience and coins. Experience points are needed to level up in FishVille(max level is 100) and coins are used to buy fishes and decorations to your aquarium.

Getting Started

Notice: This article is still under construction. Some guides are not yet available.

Getting started with FishVille is just simple. When you start the game, you will be redirected to a short tutorial. See video.

Now, I will explain the user interface. Each number on the image corresponds an explanation below.

  • 1. Coins. You can earn coins by selling your fish when they grew or by exchanging with real money.
  • 2. Level and Experience Bar. This displays the current experience points that you have and how much more you need to level up. You gain experience when buying and selling fishes. A more detailed explanation about the experience tables on fishville can be found here.
  • 3. Tank Information. When you hover your mouse on this tab, it will display the number of fishes the selected tank can hold. New tanks can hold up to 15 fishes, after a few levels it will be automatically upgraded to hold 30 fishes, and finally, it can hold up to 50 fishes.   • 4. Tanks. This displays the number of tanks you currently have. You can unlock tanks by leveling up. A more detailed explanation about fish tanks can be found here.
  • 5. Feeding Bottle. Clicking this will let you feed your fish. Fish foods are unlimited in fishville, that means you don't have to buy any fish foods to feed your fishes. Each fish needs to be fed at a certain amount of time, if you don't feed your fish for a long time, they will die. You can read the Fish Feeding Guide for more information.
  • 6. Fish Net. The fish net is used to capture and sell your fishes when they are fully grown. Each fish has their specific growth time and their selling prices gets higher as the fish became older. The Fish List includes all information about all available fishes in fishville.
  • 7. Awards: It was implemented December 23, 2009. Like other Zynga games, you have to complete a certain task to earn an award. There are still bugs and issues about it though.
  • 8. The Store. You can buy fishes, plants, decorations and tanks at the store. Almost all items can be bought with coins while some of them can only be bought with sand dollars. Scroll down to the store guide for more information.
  • 9. Gifts. This will display the gifts that you received from your friends. Specific items can only be acquired through gifts like plants, decorations and creatures. You can read the Gift Guide for more information.
  • 10. Neighbors. In this area, it will display the list of your neighbors. You can visit your neighbors, help them cleaning or changing the water of their aquarium and get bonus coins and experience. You can read Helping Your Neighbors in FishVille for more information.
  • 11. Fish Age Name. At first, it will be "Baby Fish", it will then grew and become "Junior Fish" and finally it will become "Adult Fish". Note that you need to feed your fish for them to grow.
  • 12. Fish Age/Level Progress Bar. This displays the growth percent of your fish. Once it reaches 100%, the age/level if the fish will increase. Currently, there is no known max fish age/level yet. The best age to sell your fish is at age 4.
  • 13. Fish Sell Experience. This displays the amount experience that you will get when you sell a fish. The fish sell experience will increase as the fish grows older
  • 14. The Fish. This is one of the fishes available in fishville. You can read the Fish List for more information.
  • 15. Fish Sell Coins: This displays how much coins you will get when you sell a fish. The fish sell coins will increase as the fish gets older.
  • 16. Background Music Toggle: This button allows you to turn on/off the background music.
  • 17. Sound Effects Toggle: This allows you to turn on/off the sound effects on fishville.
  • 18. Full Screen Mode. Turn on/off the full screen mode.

Store Guide

  • 1. Coins. Similar on the above, it displays how much coins you currently have. You can earn coins by selling your fishes or by exchanging with real money through paypal or credit card.


  • 2. Sand Dollars. This displays how much sand dollars you have. Sand dollar is the secondary currency in fishville. It serves as cash and certain items can only be bought with sand dollars. You start with 5 sand dollars and get 1 sand dollar every level up. Completing specific awards and opening mystery boxes may also grant sand dollars. Another way to earn sand dollars is to buy them with real money through paypal or credit card.






  • 3. Add Coins/Dollars. If you want to buy coins or sand dollars with real money, just click it and it will give you instructions on how to buy.
  • 4. Fish List. This displays the currently available fishes that you can buy. Certain fishes can be unlocked at a specific level. You can view the Fish List here
  • 5. Plants List: This displays the currently available plants that you can buy to decorate your aquarium. You can view the Plants List here.
  • 6. Decorations List: This displays the currently available decorations that you can buy to decorate your aquarium. You can view the Decorations List here
  • 7. Environments: Environments has been added December 1, 2009. There are two types of environments, the background and the gravel. Environments List coming soon!
